The reach of Chabad-Lubavitch's activities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo extends throughout Central Africa. The Jews of Morocco were all but forgotten by their Western brethren during the difficult wartime and postwar periods. But the Rebbe created spiritual lifesaving programs for these Jews. Since arriving in Morocco more than forty years ago, Chabad-Lubavitch has established scores of yeshivot, girls schools, post-graduate Rabbinic schools, creating a veritable revival of Judaism. The tools for Jewish living have also been resuscitated - including mikvahs, shechita, and teffilin factories. Camps provide recreation for Jewish children and senior citizen programs ensure the continued comfort of the aged and infirm.
Lubavitch has a longstanding commitment to providing spiritual sustenance for the Jews of South Africa. This dedication was translated into Jewish education and other spiritually critical endeavors and programs on behalf of this country's Jews. During the past forty years, Chabad Lubavitch has established centers in numerous South African towns and cities. It expects these educational outreach programs to continue to flourish in the future. As South Africa undergoes political turmoil, Chabad-Lubavitch has become and ever more important anchor in the country.
Tunisia has been home to a Chabad-Lubavitch shliach since 1960. The Tunisian Jewish community continues to benefit from Chabad-Lubavitch' s determination to maintain a presence in this country as long as a single Jew remains. Chabad-Lubavitch's quest to serve the needs of the Jewish community have led it to establish two schools, build ten mikvaot, organize its own matzah bakery for Passover and perform thousands of brissin. These activities supplement the regular educational outreach programs, including special pre-holiday programs as well as regular weekly Torah classes for men, women and children.
